Statue of General Ye Fei

Statue of General Ye Fei is located in Tiaong, Quezon, Philippines.

 

Sixto Mercado Tiongco or Ye Fei was born to Yap Sun Uy, a Chinese and Francisca Mercado, a Filipina in the town of Tiaong in May 7, 1914. He went to China to study in 1919 and joined the Chinese peoples struggle for liberation in his youth. He commanded the 10th Division of the Peoples Liberation Army, the military district of Fujian, and the navy; and became the governor of Fujian. Minister of transportation and Vice President of the Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress. Ye Fei made a one day visit to tiaong, Quezon, the place of his birth, after an absence of 70 years. He met his relatives and town folks who treated him as a part of their clan. He paid filial homage before the tomb of his parents who were buried in the towns cemetery. Ye Fei died on April 18, 1999 at the age of 85 in a military hospital in Beijing and were given full military during his funeral.
