Marabut - Samar Destinations

Marabut

Marabut is politically subdivided into 24 barangays.

Marabut is a 5th class municipality in the province of Samar. It is located at the southern part of the province and was formerly a sitio of the Municipality of Basey. The town was named after Serafin Marabut, a political figure in the area who supported and became instrumental in the approval of its independence.

One of the scenic natural tourist attractions in Southern Samar is the Marabut Marine Park, found near the popular San Bernardino Strait. Marabut Marine Park boasts of its 15 towering rock islands with secluded beach coves and coral gardens, perfect for snorkeling, scuba-diving, sun bathing and other water sports activities. It has several simple but perfectly comfortable wooden cottages and a restaurant serving fresh seafood. The Marabut Marine Park is an excellent jump-off point for exploring the Marabut Islands, a wonderful and striking collection of toothy outcrops rising out of the sea only a few hundred meters offshore. Open-rock climbers have ventured to the top of these rock formations feeling the world underneath their feet.

A short jeepney ride east along the coast from Marabut is Lawaan, a rustic and friendly coastal community where tourists can stay at Jasmine House, a private holiday home set in peaceful gardens with a number of well-kept rooms and studio for rent.

Another good place to stay in Marabut is in the Caluwayan Palm Island Resort. It is an ideal eco-tourism oriented resort designed to fit as a perfect alternative place of relaxation in Marabut. The resort is surrounded by a breathtaking view of the towering rock islands. Guests can go scuba diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking, sailing, swimming, sunbathing or simply laze on the beach enjoying the view of the beautiful seascape of the bay.

The Kinarawgan Festival, which celebrates the coconut as the tree of life and the blessings heaped upon the town by the Christ Child, is observed in Marabut every January 15.
