Baler is the political and economic center of
Aurora. It is a municipality with over 34,000 people.
Baler offers numerous places of interest for the vacationers. As a matter of fact, nine-foot high waves serve as Baler's tourist asset. It lures tons of surfers every month of February for the Aurora Cup.
Aside from that, there are still a lot of sights that tourists can gaze in awe while in Baler. Here are some of them:
Baler Church - was destroyed in the Battle of Baler in 1945 between the Philippine Commonwealth troops and the Japanese Imperial forces during World War II. It is famous for the Siege of Baler in 1898-1899 between the Philippine Revolutionary forces and Spanish troops during the Philippine Revolution and Spanish-American War. The original structure of this church was destroyed in 1945 durng the the Battle of Baler between the Philippine Commonwealth troops and the Japanese Imperial forces during World War II.
In addition to the Baler Catholic Church and other historical sites, there are resorts at
Sabang Beach and Cemento Beach, where surfers from all over the world compete for the annual
International Aurora Surfing Cup. The coral-rich islands of Dimadimalangat, Aniao and Lukso-Lukso lie just off the coast.
