It is a first class municipality in the province of Batangas.
Balayan is part of the municipalities that comprises Batangas. It is a first class municipality with over 79,000 people.

Balayan is rich in natural resources. Some of its crops include sugarcanes, coconuts and corn. Bagoong Balayan is one of its famous products.

Two events are popular in Balayan: the Parada ng Lechon is celebrated every June 24th and the Feast of Immaculate Conception every December 8th.
