Of all the towns of Bohol, the municipality of Carmen is the most visited because it is home to one of the most famous tourist spots in the whole country, the scenic Chocolate Hills. Considered as one of the natural Wonders of the World, the Chocolate Hills consists of 1,776 cone-shaped hills that spread over an area of 50 square kilometers or more and vary in size from 30 meters to 120 meters in height. It got its name from the fact that the hills turn brown in the hot summer days that they look like Hersheys Chocolate Kisses. Most of these hills are bare except for some grass although the bases of the hills have thick vegetation of tropical shrubs and trees including coconut.
The Chocolate Hills Complex is the main destination for best viewing of the Chocolate Hills. It located in Barangay Buenos Aires, Carmen, Bohol. The complex is composed of two chocolate hills developed years and years ago and transformed into a complex complete with cemented road going up, restaurant, conference room, swimming pool, activity area with water fountain, 200+ steps with covered deck rest stops along the way and metal railing to aide your climb way up to the Observation Deck. The viewing deck gives you a 360° view of the hills. It is more majestic when viewed from a plane – them appearing to be thousands of mole hills dotting out from verdant surroundings. The Chocolate Hills Complex also developed new building structures with different accommodations to cater to visitors that wish to stay overnight in the middle of the Chocolate Hills.
The municipality of Carmen does not only boast of the world renowned Chocolate Hills. It has still other attractions worth visiting such as the Church of St. Anthony Abad, the Fatima Rosary Hill, Cabasi Spring, the Lasang-Lasang Park and the Kokok & Nueva Vida Sur Caves. The rice fields beneath the hills are picturesque enough especially when viewed atop the viewing deck on the highest hill in Carmen town.
