New Washington - Aklan Destinations

New Washington

It is a municipality in the province of Aklan.

Accessible by sea or by air, New Washington is home of the famous Sampaguita Gardens Resort, owned by Samuel John Butcher of the world-renowned Precious Moments artworks.

Named after the first President of the United States, George Washington, New Washington is the third most populous municipality in the province of Aklan. It is bounded by the municipality of Batan in the East; Kalibo in the West; and Sibuyan Sea on the North.

Famed as the provincial shipping harbor of Aklan, the municipality of New Washington operates two ports: in Dumaguit and Poblacion. Both ports accommodate modern passenger and commercial vessels and serve as major trade routes between the province of Aklan and Manila.

It is also home of prominent figures in church, in business and in government. New Washington is the birth place of Cardinal Jaime Sin, the late Catholic Archbishop of Manila. In the town plaza a statue of him can be seen facing the Holy Rosary church. The park is named after him, a fitting tribute since his ancestral home is just across the park.

The town is also renowned for the Sampaguita Gardens Resort, a 14- hectare land owned by Samuel John Butcher, an American artist and creator of the popular Precious Moments artworks. Sampaguita Gardens is a perfect place for relaxation and recreation. Some of its amenities include a convention center, precious moments gallery, hotel rooms, a 43- ft aquarium, a butterfly farm, and a Thai Mansion that exhibits beautiful furniture, paintings & home decor. Many local and foreign tourists flock to the place all year round to experience the paradise that is Sampaguita Gardens.
