July 25 | Compostela
The Caballo Festival is dedicated to the town's parton saint, Señor Santiago de Apostol. The festival is celebrated through street dancing, which involves the performance of the three basic Caballo steps.
According to the legend, during a battle between Christians and Muslims, the townsfolk were claimed to be saved by an apparition riding a horse. The apparition eventually became Compostela's patron saint.
Caballo, the Spanish term for "horse," eventually became the festival's name.
