The Fort of the Princess of Asturias is one of the notable remnants of the Spanish occupation of Jolo. Built in honor of the Princess of Spain, this building was transformed into an American military headquarters when the Spanish forces left the island in 1899. It was also used as a base of the Philippine Constabulary until 1942. During the Japanese rule, the fort served as the dungeon where Filipinos were tortured.
