It is a shrine dedicated to the victory of Lapu-Lapu over Magellan. It is also located at the same spot where the Battle of Mactan was held. The place houses an obelisk in commemoration for Magellan. On the same shrine also stands a statue of Lapu-Lapu. In fact, some believe that the statue is Lapu-Lapu himself turned to stone. Nearby stalls surround the shrine selling native ornaments made of shells.
The shrine also serves as a venue for the annual Kadaugan sa Mactan celebration.
HOW TO GET THERE
Mactan Shrine is located at between the boundaries of Mactan and Punta Engaño. Take the bridge to Mactan and follow the main road until you reach the Barangay Mactan waiting shed. If you are staying in either Shangri-La or Hilton Hotel, the shrine is much nearer.
