Sunken Cemetery - Camiguin Attractions

Sunken Cemetery

The Sunken Cemetery was originally a cemetery that was part of Camiguin. During Mount Vulcan's third eruption in 1871, the town of Cotta Bato and its cemetery was buried under the sea. When Mount Vulcan erupted again in 1948, the cemetery was pushed 20 feet deeper. Because the cemetery could not be located, a large cross was built in 1982 on top of the solidified lava to mark the location of the graveyard.
