Malaybalay is a 1st class component city in Bukidnon.

Malaybalay is a 1st class component city in Bukidnon. It serves as Bukidnon's capital and administrative center.

 

When Spaniards explored came to the town center in the late 18th centurty, they asked the locals for the name of the place. The people replied in Bisaya and said "wala'y balay" which meant "no house". The Spaniards mispronounced the phrase and repeated it as "Malaybalay".

 

Malaybalay is the venue of the Kaamulan Festival, held yearly from late-February to early-March.

 

The city is politically subdivided into 46 barangays.
