Monkayo is a 1st class municipality in the province of Compostela Valley. As of the 2007 census, Monkayo has a population of 90,971 people. Diwalwal, Monkayo's most populated barangay, has an estimated population of 16,965 people.

 

Monkayo is an agricultural town with vast fields of rice and banana. The municipality is also the home of a large gold mine located in Diwalwal.
