April 30 | Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Philippines.
Imagine a bustling City main avenue- all 1,001 meters of its becoming the site of a grand 'party' for some 40,000 people engaged in consuming ( and enjoying immensely about five tons of grilled milkfish or Bangus! Definitely, the scene should be one for the Guinnes Book of World Records, or for 'Ripley's Believe it or not'. The former is precisely the big target of organizers of the first ever Bangus Festival in Dagupan City, a river filled community adjacent to the sea, which is delicacy known as bangus. A Festival denotes merrymaking, rejoicing, gaiety, celebration - even amusement or fun. But when Dagupan City under Mayor Benjamin Saplan Lim undertakes its 2002 Bangus Festival, it seeks more than jubilation. It desires to inject the true value of the city's bangus to the existence and identity of Dagupan City.
