Paco Park is located in
Manila, Philippines.
Paco Park, one of Manila's most beautiful and beloved parks, provides a dreamlike setting for intimate musical soirees every Friday at 6:00 P.M. Paco Park Presents was conceived by Dr. Christoph Jessen, then Press and Cultural Attache of the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, as a cooperative venture between the NPDC and the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. With the help of the late Ka Doroy Valencia, then NPDC Vice Chairman, Dr. Jessen's idea became a reality on February 29, 1980. It is likely that even Dr. Jessen did not dream that the Paco Park concerts would continue for as long as "Philippine-German Month" and is devoted to the performance of Filipino and German artists whose repertoires focus on the music of the two countries. This "exchange program" of artists and ideas has served to further the bonds between the Filipino and German peoples.
In 1998, the celebration of Philippine-German month was moved from February to March, with the concert starting at 7:00 P.M. But Paco Park Presents continues to celebrate its anniversary every February.
The NPDC's Arts and Culture Division is mainly responsible for Paco Park Presents, which is presented every Friday at 6:00 P.M., with Ms. Minette Padilla as program host. It is taped in front of a "live" audience at Paco Park, San Marcelino, Manila and is aired nationwide every Thursday at PTV Channel 4 from 11:00 P.M. to 12:00 M.N. Thus far, One Thousand and Nine concerts have been produced. Segments of the program are shown over the Filipino channels in Hawaii, Canada and Alaska.
